Every year for the past ten years we have had the tradition of visiting a local farm during the month of October with some sweet and dear friends we affectionately call "Uncle Matt" and "Aunt Jess". Well today was that day! We look forward to doing the same three things each time we visit: go through the 4-acre corn maze, play in the kids' play area, and ride the tractor-train around the farm. Some years we buy veggies or fruit or pumpkins for cooking or carving at their farmer's market. One year we had the kids ride the ponies and most years we indulge in "Mexican Corn". Now, if you haven't had Mexican Corn you don't know what you're missing! This is fresh corn, fire-roasted, then topped with globs of mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, and salt. If your tastes lean to a little spicier liking, usually there is chili powder available, as well as lemon juice. Believe me when I say this truly is a highlight! Sadly this year we didn't indulge, but of all the yummy food options available at the farm, it certainly is well-worth the inflated prices and the mess it makes! One thing that has been consistent over the last ten years is that every year I've either been pregnant or nursing! Here is a snapshot of the last ten years. It's so fun to see how our family has grown! 2008This was our first experience with the farm and all its attractions. Our favorite memory from this year was our then 2-year-old running ahead of us in the corn maze yelling, "This way, guys!" and munching on carrot sticks. I was about 4-months pregnant with #2. 2009Pictures coming soon 2010Pictures coming soon 2011Pictures coming soon 2012This year we had the pleasure of being joined by my cousin and her family. Our kids dressed in farm-themed costumes: a scarecrow, a crow, and an ear of corn! They even convinced my husband to dress like a farmer. I didn't dress up. This year, I was almost 3-months pregnant with #4. 2013It's always SO HOT at the farm, despite it being the middle or end of October! 2014Our oldest wanted to be a sunflower this year. I'm no costume designer, so she turned out more like a daisy, but she liked it. She even pulled off a pretty convincing Statue of Daiserty in the corn maze! Our son wanted to be a "dinosaur hunter", so he went in his dino pjs. I think people just thought I was lazy or had poor judgement to let him wander around in his pjs, but I kept telling them that he WASN'T in his pjs... he was in fact a bonafide dinosaur hunter! Oh yes, continuing the tradition, I was newly pregnant here, however sadly we lost that baby the following month. 2015Pictures coming soon 2016Pictures coming soon 2017And this brings us to today! Our older girls went dressed as a fairy and a peasant (costumes which we were blessed to pick up just yesterday at a local dance studio's fund-raiser for only $5 each!), and our sons went as Batman and a fire-fighter... though the fire-fighter got too hot and decided to just wear his normal clothes for the most part of the day... in fact, so did Batman! We enjoyed two huge bags of kettle-corn, ice cold water, and hot dogs, courtesy of our wonderful friends "Uncle Matt" and "Aunt Jess". And for the first time since we began coming here, the weather was actually... NICE... ish. It was overcast with a little breeze, so that made the heat a little more tolerable! Oh yes, and I'm due in just over 4 weeks with Baby #6!
