A Note About Presentations: All presentations should begin with, "Hello, my name is... and today I will be presenting/telling you about..." All presentations should end with, "Thank you. Does anyone have any questions?"
Things to focus on. Focus on only one item each week:
Eye Contact... both presenter and audience should maintain consistent eye contact.
Facial Expressions... both presenter and audience should maintain a facial expression which is appropriate for the content
Articulation... that is, speak clearly, enunciate, not too fast or slow, inflection of phrases to make your points interesting, impactful, and memorable
Volume... your speaking volume should be appropriate for your topic, your audience, and your location. An empassioned presentation, an older audience, or an outdoor location allow or require a lourder speaking volume. A somber or simple presentation, a younger audience, or an indoor location allow or require a quieter or normal speaking volume.
Poise... make your entrance and exit confidently, stand up straight, keep hand gestures appropriate to topic, not too grand or subtle. Stand confidently without fidgeting. A good presenter will move about slightly if the location allows for it.
Confidence... confidence is something gained from practice and experience. You can gain confidence by practicing your presentation ahead of time until you know it very well and enjoy talking about it.
Then repeat these 6 items three more times to get through to week 24.
On being a good audience: A good audience... ... claps when the presenter is announced and approaches the platform. ... listens quietly without squirming, fidgeting, or making faces. ... maintains a pleasant facial expression and good eye contact. ... only laughs when it is appropriate to do so. ... holds questions to the end and thinks of ONE excellent question to ask the presenter. ... does NOT try to dialogue with the presenter, correct the presenter, or add to the presentation. ... claps when the presenter has finished.
